May 21st Daily Recap
"Waking
up, it was like every other day. We had everything planned out; breakfast,
worship, a devotional given by one of our own, then ministry. As we gathered
together to worship, the Lord began to minister to us. What He had to say was
seemingly simple, "listen." He made it clear that it was
important for us to listen for His voice in all that we were going to do. As
the day played out everyone listened in their own way and in the way God had
divinely designed.
Painting was the plan for the day; we were going to paint the children's
wing of Volcano Church and Uncle Eddie and the boys were there to be of
assistance, in any way, should we need it. But before we began Mr. Ray, a
faithful member of the church, swept up a couple of students and began to share
his wisdom of ages with them. So Mr. Ray taught while they listened and others
painted. This became a common thing as the day rolled on, and at the end of the
day most everyone had had a chance to listen to the man share. Not only did we
listen Mr. Rays heart but also when we were painting we listened to one another
and we listened at lunch when we heard the Hawaiian way of saying grace before
we ate. We did our best to listen.
In the evening we all sat down to talk
about the day (what we call “debriefing”) and someone that had sat down with
Mr. Ray that day said that, even though they didn’t know what he was talking
about they knew that he simply wanted to share his wisdom with them. And so
they felt that the best way to minister to him was to listen. It turns out that
this is how most people felt in their conversations with Mr. Ray.
With listening comes opportunity. That is something
I have learned today, it seems simple but there truly is a profound depth to it.
But it is not only when we listen to other people that opportunities to
minister arise, it is also when we listen to the Lord that we enable Him to
minister to us. I saw that much today, in the way we listened for His voice in
the morning allowing Him to minister to our hearts as we prepared to minister
to someone else’s. It was in listening to Him that we knew how to listen to
them." - Erin Hannan

Worship and Devotional
Esther and Ryan got some one on one time with Mr. Ray, as he shared some Wisdom from his life as a carpenter. We learned a lot more then just carpentry from this man.
After the prayer over our kindly prepared lunch, our New Hope Volcano Ohana danced and sang a song of Thanks to the Lord for his blessings.
This morning after a extended time in worship Esther W shared her Devotion with us. We dug into the word and we encouraged about remembering the Lords visions and promises he gives us. Thank you Esther for your wonderful heart.
Today after this time we all decided that the Lord had given us a special call to "Listen" today. So we did.

May 20th Daily Recap
"Today began with our scheduled Ohana
(family) meeting between Canby New Life, and Volcano New Hope. As we walked
into the little sanctuary wrapped in colors of love and care, I was greeted and
graciously introduced to people from South Korea, Japan, China, Chili, Africa,
the Philippines, and numerous other locations from around the US! What a
blessing from God straight to my heart, to be given the privilege of
administering the gospel this morning through His word and His work done in my
life. Truly a clash of new life, springing forth from the hope of an
unconditional love and forgiveness. Even though the amount of time spent at
each location may seem short in our eyes, Jesus showed us in John 4 that a
single moment of two lives intersecting at a well can result in eternal
ramifications. Our Father is in the business of going deep, and time is His
creation, not His master. After preparations were made to return tomorrow
for painting the exterior of the youth building, we were blessed to head off on
a guided tour of the surrounding volcanoes with a group of discipleship
students from South Korea. Half way down the volcano, our guide Deeno brought
us to a stop and opened up a small window into paradise past with a story from
a discovery he had made during his masters work in biology and botany. He told
us how there was once a time when a certain type of berry, as well as a type of
stinging nettle, existed on the island without any enemies in the ecosystem.
This caused the plants to shed their protective nettles and thorns,
transferring all of the plants energy into creating life, instead of having to
protect it. The result of this focus on life? Beautiful, full flowers and
berries big enough to cover the top of a Coca-Cola can. What surprises await us
in the day when the lion lay down with the lamb, and the energy of creation
surges head long into vitality and life? We will have to wait, and see." -Gabriel Behrmann

Crossover Service at New Hope Hilo
After spending the day yesterday with our friends from Crossover, they invited us to attend their service back at New Hope Hilo. So, after our day was done we packed into the van and went to enjoy some Worship lead by our new friend Jamie, some word brought by our new friend Chad and some good Hawaiian food! Before and after service we had a chance to play some games. Things aren't too different here then it is back home.
