"Today began with our scheduled Ohana
(family) meeting between Canby New Life, and Volcano New Hope. As we walked
into the little sanctuary wrapped in colors of love and care, I was greeted and
graciously introduced to people from South Korea, Japan, China, Chili, Africa,
the Philippines, and numerous other locations from around the US! What a
blessing from God straight to my heart, to be given the privilege of
administering the gospel this morning through His word and His work done in my
life. Truly a clash of new life, springing forth from the hope of an
unconditional love and forgiveness. Even though the amount of time spent at
each location may seem short in our eyes, Jesus showed us in John 4 that a
single moment of two lives intersecting at a well can result in eternal
ramifications. Our Father is in the business of going deep, and time is His
creation, not His master. After preparations were made to return tomorrow
for painting the exterior of the youth building, we were blessed to head off on
a guided tour of the surrounding volcanoes with a group of discipleship
students from South Korea. Half way down the volcano, our guide Deeno brought
us to a stop and opened up a small window into paradise past with a story from
a discovery he had made during his masters work in biology and botany. He told
us how there was once a time when a certain type of berry, as well as a type of
stinging nettle, existed on the island without any enemies in the ecosystem.
This caused the plants to shed their protective nettles and thorns,
transferring all of the plants energy into creating life, instead of having to
protect it. The result of this focus on life? Beautiful, full flowers and
berries big enough to cover the top of a Coca-Cola can. What surprises await us
in the day when the lion lay down with the lamb, and the energy of creation
surges head long into vitality and life? We will have to wait, and see." -Gabriel Behrmann
